How many batteries would you recommend for a three-bedroom house?
I was just reading through this thread and had the exact same question.
How many batteries would you actually recommend for a typical three-bedroom house? I’m also looking into adding battery storage and trying to figure out what size system makes sense without overdoing it.
Would be really helpful to hear what others have gone with and how it’s performing in real life.
It really depends on how you plan to use them, but from my setup (3-bed semi) I went with around 10–15 kWh total storage, which usually means 2–3 batteries depending on the brand. That’s been enough to cover evening and night usage pretty comfortably, especially paired with solar. In winter it’s obviously less effective, but still helps reduce peak-time costs. If you’re aiming for more independence (like running most of the house off batteries overnight), you might want to go a bit higher. But for a typical setup just looking to cut bills, 2 batteries is usually a solid starting point.
For a 3-bedroom house, most people I know who have solar panels tend to go for something between 8 and 12 kWh. That’s usually enough to keep using energy from the panels during the evening and night instead of pulling from the grid.
If you’ve got a heat pump or an electric car, then it’s probably worth thinking about something bigger. But if the goal is just slightly lower bills and some basic backup power, there’s probably no point going overboard with a huge battery 😅
