Honestly, I was in exactly the same situation — upgraded insulation, new windows, house got super efficient… and then started overheating like crazy in summer.
I went for AC last year and I’m not gonna lie, it’s one of the best upgrades I’ve done. The comfort difference is massive. When it’s 28°C+ outside and everyone’s struggling, I’ve got the house sitting nicely at 21–22°C and actually sleeping properly.
Running costs aren’t as bad as people think either. Modern units are pretty efficient – I only run it when needed (mainly evenings and really hot days), and it didn’t blow up my bills like I expected. Definitely worth it for the comfort alone.
In the UK, split systems work really well for houses — quiet, efficient, and you can control specific rooms. I did look at heat pumps with cooling, but for straightforward cooling, AC just does the job better and simpler.
If your house is already well insulated, I’d say it’s 100% worth it. Funny enough, the more efficient your home is, the more you actually need cooling in summer.
