I’ve had solar panels for just over three years now on a typical four-bedroom family home, and overall I’d say they’ve been a worthwhile investment. The biggest benefit for us has been the lower electricity bills during the brighter months, when a large part of our daytime usage is covered by the system.
We decided to install a battery as well. It definitely increased the upfront cost, but being able to use stored energy in the evening has helped us get more value from the panels. Whether a battery is worth it probably depends on your usage patterns, but for our family it made sense.
