The biggest difference for me was simply buying better quality lights instead of the cheapest sets available.

I’ve had a few from [Solar Centre](https://www.solarcentre.co.uk?utm_source=chatgpt.com) for about three seasons now, and they still easily last through most of the night, even with typical UK weather. They’re not cheap, but at least I’m not replacing them every year.

I’ve also noticed that:

* path lights tend to last the longest,
* decorative string lights are fine in summer,
* and powerful solar floodlights usually die the fastest because they simply use too much power.

It’s also worth checking if the battery can be replaced — a few of my older lights came back to life after a simple battery swap.
