My uncle had MVHR installed during the renovation of an older house and from what he told me, the biggest difference is in everyday comfort 🙂 The air feels fresher, there’s much less moisture building up on the windows, and overall the house just feels nicer to live in, especially during winter.
He also said that this kind of system makes the most sense when the house is already well insulated and reasonably airtight. Otherwise, part of the benefit is simply lost.
The biggest downside during the renovation was aparently the installation itself, because you need to find places to hide all the ventilation ducts and plan everything properly. It’s definitely much easier in a new build.
Overall though, he doesn’t regret it at all and said if he was renovating again, he’d still choose MVHR.
