I’ve had solar panels for about 2 years on a detached house and overall I’m happy with them, but it’s not an instant “game changer.”
My electricity bills are down by roughly half, sometimes even more in the summer. In winter it’s definitely weaker, so I still have to rely on the grid quite a bit. It looks like the payback period will be around 8–10 years.
I didn’t go for a battery, and honestly I probably wouldn’t if I did it again — it’s too expensive, and I still manage to save money without it.
The biggest difference is that I try to use electricity during the day (washing machine, dishwasher), and that’s when it really works best.
Overall: it’s worth it, but you need to treat it as a long-term saving rather than a quick way to cut bills.
